About Dear Green Compass
Glasgow is brilliant, and it rains a lot. Most what's-on guides ignore the second part. We don't.
What it is
Dear Green Compass is a free weekly email for anyone planning time in Glasgow, whether you live here or you're visiting. It lands every Thursday at 7am and covers the next 10 days: the honest forecast, five verified highlights, a Rain Plan and a Dry Plan, getting about (Sunday Subway, rail works, Hydro crowds), a neighbourhood gem and what to book ahead.
Who's behind it
It's an independent, Glasgow-made newsletter written by Chris. We use software tools to help collect listings and forecasts, but a person reviews every issue before it goes out, and nothing runs unless an official source confirms it.
How we check things
- Every listing needs a date (with the weekday), start time, venue, price or "free", and an official link.
- If we can't confirm a fact on the organiser's own page that week, the item doesn't run.
- We put "checked on" dates on our guides, and we correct mistakes openly in the next issue.
Ads, affiliate links and sponsors
The newsletter is free because of a few clearly labelled ads. Here are the rules we follow:
- Ad · appears before any affiliate link (for example Booking.com, Trainline or GetYourGuide). If you book through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
- Sponsored marks a paid placement. There's at most one sponsor block per issue, placed after the weather plans.
- No more than three affiliate links per issue, and never on free events.
- Our picks are never paid for. We choose the editorial picks first, and ads go only where they're genuinely useful.
- Our own products (like the Rainy-Day guide) are labelled as ours.
- Sponsors get a placement, never your data. We don't sell or share the mailing list.
We follow the ASA/CAP guidance that ads must be obviously identifiable before you engage with them. If something looks unclear, tell us.
