Who we are

Dear Green Compass ("we", "us") is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: [email protected]. Dear Green Compass is an independent Glasgow newsletter run by Chris.

What we collect

Why, and our lawful basis

The newsletter includes sponsored content and affiliate links. They're always labelled, and we never sell or share your details with sponsors or advertisers.

Double opt-in

After you sign up, we send a confirmation email. You won't receive the newsletter until you click to confirm. This protects you against someone signing you up without permission.

Our email provider (processor)

We use Kit (kit.com) to collect sign-ups and send emails. Kit acts as our data processor under a data processing agreement and stores data on our behalf. Kit is based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the UK. Kit's Data Processing Addendum says these transfers rely on the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, with the UK International Data Transfer Agreement as a fallback safeguard.

This website

This website doesn't set cookies and doesn't use analytics or advertising trackers. Our web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security, for a short period. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, so Cloudflare processes those requests. Sign-up links take you to Kit's page, where Kit's own privacy notice also applies.

How long we keep it

We keep your details while you're subscribed. If you haven't opened an email for about 12 months, we may ask whether you still want the emails, and remove you if you don't reply. When you unsubscribe, we keep only what's needed to make sure we don't email you again.

Unsubscribing

Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also reply "unsubscribe" or email [email protected].

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll reply within one month.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
